Paris photo diary

Ador Parisul. Are acel „je ne sais quoi” care te face să îl îndrăgești din prima. Prima oară când am fost eram încă la liceu, și țin minte că am fost uimită, dar nu știam să identific neapărat de ce. A doua oară, eram deja la facultate, și începusem să recunosc clădiri celebre despre care învățasem la cursuri, deci motivul uimirii mele anterioare începea să capete sens. A treia oară, adică acum o lună, am mers cu mama mea ca să vizităm un târg foarte mare de textile, pentru viitoarele colecții Roxi’s Fine Cut, și să vizitez boutique-ul unde câteva dintre piesele pe care le fac sunt expuse (Shopping for Happiness), așa că timpul efectiv de plimbare prin oraș a fost limitat. Nu mi-am propus un itinerariu stufos, ci doar să ne relaxăm, să respirăm aer Parizian, și să vizităm câteva prietene care mi-au fost colege în Budapesta și în Palermo. Cum nouă ne-a plăcut foarte mult această plimbare fără scop precis, am compus un jurnal foto despre ce am făcut, unde ne-am băut cafeaua (sau ceaiul, în cazul meu) și despre locurile frumoase pe care le-am văzut.

 

EN: I adore Paris. It has that „je ne sais quoi” that makes you fall in love with it within seconds. The first time I’ve visited it I was still in high school, and I remember being mesmerized, but I couldn’t identify the exact reason. The second time, I was already studying architecture, and I started recognizing well-known bindings which we were learning about at school, so my foregoing wonder started to make sense. The third time, which is one month ago, I traveled there with my mom to visit a huge fabric fair for the future Roxi’s Fine Cut collections and to visit the boutique where some of my pieces are exposed (Shopping for Happiness), so we didn’t have too much spare time. I didn’t set a busy itinerary though, as we only wanted to relax, breathe the Parisian air and visit some friends which I studied and spent a lot of time with in Budapest and Palermo. As we loved it, I made up this photo diary with what we did, where we drank our coffee (or tea, in my case) and with the beautiful sights we saw.

 

TURNUL EIFFEL

Poate unii îl consideră supraestimat, sau poate spuneți că Parisul înseamnă mai mult decât acest picior de pod supradimensionat – și aveți dreptate – dar cu toate acestea, trebuie să urcați. Am urcat de două ori până în vârf, și aș fi urcat și a treia oară dacă nu ar fi fost închis din cauză că ninsese puțin cu două zile înainte (în Paris se cam blochează totul când ninge, am simțit asta pe pielea mea). Ce vă recomand eu este să urcați pe jos (sunt vreo 1700 de scări), pentru că eu zic că nu există lift spre succes – și știu ca e o metaforă, dar și Parisul este un oraș al poeziei, așa că merită aplicată. În plus, și așa stăm la birou cam 70% din zi, așa că de ce să nu facem un pic de mișcare când avem ocazia?

 

EN: THE EIFFEL TOUR

Maybe some of you consider it overestimated, or maybe you think Paris means more than this over dimensioned bridge leg – and you are right – but you still must visit it. I went all the way up two times, and I’d have gone the third time as well, if it hadn’t been closed due to a couple of snow falls two days before (Paris becomes blocked when it snows, and I felt it myself). What I truly recommend is climbing on foot (around 1700 stairs), because I believe there’s no elevator to success – and I know it’s a metaphor, but Paris is the city of poetry, and it’s worth giving it a try. Moreover, we spend around 70% of our day at the desk, so why not working our a bit when we have the opportunity? 

 

ARCUL DE TRIUMF

Din același motiv ca și cel menționat mai sus, nu am putut urca… În orice alte condiții este, totuși, deschis publicului, iar intrarea se face prin subteran, de pe latura cu Champs-Elisées. Dacă tot sunteți acolo, merită să faceți o plimbare și pe Avenue des Champs-Elisées, și dacă mergeți până la final, veți ajunge în grădinile Tuileries (o splendoare, vara), și mai apoi la Louvre (pe care nu am avut timp să îl vizitez de data aceasta, dar am petrecut două zile acolo și vă spun că merită să mergeți doar dacă aveți timp, chef, și un carnețel unde să vă notați tot ce vedeți, pentru referințe ulterioare).

 

EN: THE ARCH OF TRIUMPH

For the same reason as mentioned above, we couldn’t go up… In other conditions though, it’s open for everyone, and the entrance is via the underground, on the Champs-Elisées side. If you are there, the Avenue des Champs-Elisées is definitely worth a walk, and if you go up to the end you’ll reach the Tuileries garden (beautiful during the summer), and then the Louvre (which I didn’t have the time to visit this time, but where I spent two days some time ago, and I advise you not to go unless you have enough time, wish, and a notebook where you can write everything you see, for future references).

 

GALERIA ARTCURIAL

Un palat mic care găzduiește expoziții de artă contemporană dar organizează și evenimente conexe în mod periodic. Am avut norocul să intrăm aici pentru că Grand Palais și Petit Palais (vecinele mai mari și mai cunoscute) erau închise, dar vă recomand să vă documentați în legătură cu programul lor dinainte de a merge, și poate găsiți un eveniment care vă tentează.

 

EN: THE ARTCURIAL GALLERY

A small palace that hosts contemporary art exhibitions and also organizes connected events frequently. I had the chance to visit it because the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais (the bigger and more famous neighbors) were closed, and I recommend that you make a research beforehand, and maybe you find some event that inspire you. 

 

CAFENEAUA LE PROGRES ȘI CARTIERUL MONTMARTRE

O cafenea extrem de drăguță și primitoare în Montmartre, care are niște deserturi delicioase. Eu mi-am luat „cafe gourmet”, care înseamnă un ceai sau o cafea, plus 3 (trei) delicatese dulci – eu am primit cheese cake, crème brûlée și un brownie pufos. În acest cartier o să mai găsiți o grămadă de colțuri ascunse și frumoase, dar și obiective turistice ca și Sacre-Coeur, museul Dali sau, puțin mai departe, Moulin Rouge.

 

EN: CAFE BISTROT LE PROGRES ȘI CARTIERUL MONRMARTRE

A super cute and cozy cafeteria in Montmartre, which has some delicious sweets. I ordered „cafe gourmet”, which is a coffee or a tea, plus 3 (three) sweet delicacies – I had a cheese cake, a crème brûlée and a soft brownie. In this neigbourhood you’ll also find a lot of beautiful hidden corners, but touristic sights such as Sacre Coeur, the Dali museum or, a little bit further, the Moulin Rouge, as well.

 

CENTRUL GEORGES-POMPIDOU

Găzduiește un muzeu imens de artă contemporană (unde la fel ca și la Louvre, vă recomand să mergeți cu timp și interes), un restaurant, o bibliotecă multimedia, dar și celebrele tuburi transparente care oferă o priveliște frumoasă asupra zonei înconjurătoare. Cartierul este și el foarte ofertant, cu magazine care au produse drăguțe și artiști stradali care colorează peisajul. În apropiere este și fântâna muzicală Stravinsky, care din păcate nu a funcționat niciodată când am fost pe acolo, dar poate voi aveți noroc.

 

EN: THE GEORGES-POMPIDOU CENTER

It hosts a huge contemporary art museum (where, the same as for Louvre, I think you shouldn’t go unless you have time and interest), a restaurant, a multimedia library, but also the transparent tubes that offer a nice view over the neighborhood. The area itself is nice, with cute souvenir shops and street artists that revive the atmosphere. There’s also the Stravinsky musical fountain nearby, which was unfortunately out of order every time I’ve been there, but maybe you’re luckier.

 

CATEDRALA NOTRE DAME ȘI CARTIERUL SAINT-GERMAIN

Catedrala în sine este un obiectiv care nu trebuie ratat, dar calculați dinainte timpul de stat la coadă, ca să nu vă dea peste cap tot programul, sau mergeți foarte devreme dimineața. Cartierul este foarte frumos, deci o după-masă însorită aici eu zic că este mai mult decât binevenită. Prin apropiere este și biserica Sainte Chapelle, care are niște vitralii minunate, dar la care se stă, la fel, foarte mult la coadă.

 

EN: THE NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL AND THE SAINT-GERMAIN QUARTIER

The cathedral itself is something you mustn’t miss while in Paris, but make sure you keep in mind the queue time, or go very early in the morning. The neighborhood itself is very beautiful, so a sunny afternoon walk around is something I could really use right now. There’s also the Sainte Chapelle church nearby, which has some amazing stained glass windows, but, the same as for Notre Dame, you’ll have to queue for a long time. 

 

GALERIILE LAFAYETTE

Nu am vrut în niciun caz să fac cumpărături, dar prietena mea, Juliette, mi-a spus că o asemenea clădire frumoasă nu trebuie să scape nevizitată, și a avut dreptate. Magazinele sunt împărțite pe etaje, astfel că un etaj este cu magazine cu prețuri mai accesibile, altul cu firme de lux, altul cu lucruri pentru casă etc, dar repet, am vrut doar să văd arhitectura. De pe terasă se vede foarte frumos întregul oraș și turnul Eiffel, deci a meritat vizita.

 

EN: THE LAFAYETTE GALLERIES

I didn’t want to go shopping at all, but my friend, Juliette, said that I cannout miss such a beautiful building, and she was right. The shops are organized on levels, so one level is full with rather accesible items, one level with luxury brands, one with decoration stuff etc, but I reaffirm, I only wanted to see the architecture. From the rooftop you can see the whole city and also the Eiffel Tour, so the visit was worth it.

 

 

GRAND PALAIS

Acest palat este unul pe care mi-am dorit să îl vizitez absolut de fiecare dată, dar tot absolut de fiecare dată nu am avut noroc. Zona din interior cu celebra cupolă de metal și sticlă este deschisă numai și numai în timpul evenimentelor temporare, care se întâmplă, după cum le spune și numele, temporar – deci foarte rar, din câte am înțeles eu. Data viitoare cu siguranță o să îmi organizez excursia la Paris în funcție de vreun eveniment din palat, pentru că vreau neapărat să îi văd interiorul!

 

EN: THE GRAND PALAIS

This palace is something I really wanted to see every single time I’ve been to Paris, but I was unlucky every single time I tried to. The inner area that has the famous metal and glass dome is open only during temporary events, which take place, as their name explain, temporary – which is very rarely, as I understood. The next time I visit Paris I will definitely organize the whole itinerary according to some event in the palace, because I want to visit the interior so badly!

 

PIZZA LA PICCOLINA

Sunt o mulțime de restaurante în apropierea turnului Eiffel, dar multe sunt ori exagerat de scumpe, ori cu un serviciu sau produse îndoielnice, ori ambele. Am găsit, totuși, restaurantul ăsta care servește pizza foarte buna, dar și niște deserturi grozave.

 

EN: PIZZA LA PICCOLINA

There are plenty of restaurants near the Eiffel Tour, bur a lor of them are either overpriced, or with a doubtful serving or products, or both. However, I found this restaurant that serves delicious pizza and some amazing deserts.
